The Benson has undergone a complete renovation and while respecting it's charm, it now features the latest in technology and design.

The History

Built in 1901 by Knut Benson, the funds to construct the structure and eventually the entire block came from profits he made on two mines at Ophir.  The first tenant was Harold Kid Whitelaw who opened the San Juan Country Club until it closed around the time of Mr. Benson's death.  The building has been home to a number of saloons and hotels and featured the first ever automotive garage in the town.
